The 6-1 170-pounder has committed to North Carolina
The First Academy (Orlando, Fla.) junior defensive back player Danny Odem announced he has committed to the University of North Carolina, he announced on his social media accounts Monday night.
Odem is coming off a visit to Chapel Hill where he attended their game on Saturday as the Tar Heels hosted Charlotte.
“North Carolina has always been my dream school, so it was just exciting to get out there when they offered me and invited me to the game.” Odem told Don Callahan of 247Sports.
Odem chose the Tar Heels over Jacksonville State, Ole Miss and UCF.
Odem made the move to the Sunshine State after playing his first two seasons of high school football at Farrell Area High School in Western Pennsylvania.
So far in the first three games of his junior season, Odem is third on the team in total tackles (24) and has also recorded an interception. As a sophomore, Odem had 50 catches for 613 yards and seven touchdowns as a wide receiver before transitioning to play defensive back.
Odem is the third member of North Carolina’s 2026 recruiting class so far as he joins Rolesville (N.C.) defensive end Zavion Griffin-Haynes who pledged to the Tar Heels on Sunday night and Providence Day (Charlotte, N.C.) three-star quarterback Zaid Lott who committed back in June.
