As we enter the second half of the High School Girls Basketball season across the Sunshine State. HSSportsFlorida staff writer Ross Van De Griek will be evaluating five prospects in this year’s sophomore class.
Jalynn Belton– Miami Country Day
Belton comes into 2025 ranked as the top sophomore in the state of Florida, according to Prep Girls Hoops Florida. She gives her teammates a huge presence on the defensive end when it comes to protecting the rim. She uses her size, strength, and length to limit any opposition into scoring any second chance points.
Kori Edge– Miami Country Day
The 5-6 point guard is a savvy three-level scorer who can play on and off the ball at a high level. Edge is also a premier on-the-ball defender where she gets very active in the passing lanes and is poised to have a breakout summer with the Miami Suns.
Mya Greene– River Ridge (New Port Richey)
The 5-6 combo guard is at her absolute best when she gets to the rim and is unafraid to finish with contact. Greene will often score in bunches and creates good energy and movement on the defensive end of the floor as well. Greene makes hustle plays, whether going after the loose ball or being active in the passing lanes.
Bianca Hall– The First Academy (Orlando)
The 5-7 sophomore guard is having herself a stellar sophomore season where she’s averaging 22.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game for the Royals. Hall has scored 20+ points in four of her last five games and has emerged as one of the top sophomore prospects in the state.
Vanessa Vancott– Mater Lakes Academy
The 5-9 sophomore combo guard has all the intangibles as she has length, size and a good athletic frame. VanCott does an excellent job at running the floor where she is also affective at finishing around the rim. She is also a great rebounder on the offensive and defensive glass using her quick first step to battle on the boards. On the offensive end, VanCott does a great job at scoring against bigger defenders and has a smooth handle where she can score across all three levels.
