Game Preview: American Heritage Plantation at Chaminade-Madonna

The South Florida Area Game of the Week features two programs with heavy aspirations to play for a state championship at the end of the season.

American Heritage (1-1) is coming off a 51-12 thumping win over Western back on August 30 where they were carried by junior quarterback Dia Bell (Texas commit) who went 16-of-23 for 332 passing yards and five touchdown passes to four different receivers. Junior wide receiver Malachi Toney also had a big game where he caught six passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns in the blowout win for the Patriots last week.

Another name to keep an eye on for the Patriots offense will be senior running back Byron Louis who can be very explosive in the backfield as well as in the passing game. Louis had a team-high 13 carries for 84 yards and a touchdown in the win last week.

On defense for the Patriots, keep an eye on junior defensive end Kymani Morales (Holds offers from Kentucky, Minnesota, Purdue and several others) who currently leads the team with 15 total tackles, 7.5 of them coming for a loss. Also keep an eye on senior safety Jordan Louis (Holds an offer from Temple) and senior linebacker Omarian Abraham who are each tied for second on the team with 13 total tackles through the first two games of the season.

Chaminade-Madonna (0-2) currently find themselves in unfamiliar territory as they’ve dropped each of their first two games by a combined eight points. The Lions are using a two-quarterback system where they are led by sophomore Tyler Chance and senior Preston Wright splitting duties at the position.

The Lions are coming off a 35-34 overtime loss to Blanche Ely back on August 30 where they were led by junior running back Derrick Cooper who had 29 carries for 184 yards and four touchdowns in the defeat. Also keep an eye on junior wide receivers Jabari Brady (11 catches, 130 yards) and Jasen Lopez (17 catches, 217 yards, 2 touchdowns) who can be very effective in the passing attack.

On the defensive side, The Lions have been led by senior defensive end Matthew Pointer (FIU commit) who is coming off his best performance of the season where he had 10 total tackles. Another name to keep an eye on is junior linebacker Bryant Junius (Holds offers from Auburn, Florida State, Indiana, Louisville, Maryland and others) who is in just his second season playing the position where he can be a huge disruptor in the passing lanes with his athleticism.
