Florida High School Volleyball Top 10 Rankings- Week 6


We have reached the midway point of the high school volleyball season in the Sunshine State. Each Tuesday throughout the season, HSSportsFlorida will reveal their Top 10 Statewide Rankings across all classifications. Here is this week’s edition of the Top 10 teams in Florida.

#1 Plant (14-0)

Last Week: Defeated Berkeley Prep 3-0, Defeated Steinbrenner 3-1

This Week: vs Newsome (Wed.)

The defending Class 7A Champion Plant Panthers continue their unbeaten stretch where they picked up two marquee wins over Berkeley Prep and Steinbrenner last week. So far this season, senior outside hitters Lara Matta (Mercer commit) and Maggie Dostic (Tennessee commit) are leading the team.

#2 Winter Park (15-1)

Last Week: Defeated Cypress Creek (Orlando) 2-0, Defeated Lake Nona 2-0, Defeated Timber Creek 2-0

This Week: at Olympia (Tues.), at Kissimmee Osceola (Thu.), vs Boone (Fri.)

The Lady Wildcats move up one spot from No. 3 to No. 2 in this week’s statewide volleyball rankings after winning last week’s Metro-East title. Leading the team so far this season have been sophomore middle blocker Isabel Incinelli, junior outside hitter Amelia Mancino, and junior outside hitter Sophia Stallworth.

#3 Berkeley Prep (15-2)

Last Week: Lost to Plant 3-0, Defeated Clearwater Central Catholic 3-1, Defeated Tampa Prep 2-0, Defeated Sickles 2-0, Defeated Newsome 2-0, Defeated Academy of the Holy Names 2-0, Defeated Sunlake 2-0

This Week: vs Tampa Catholic (Tues.), vs Carrollwood Day (Thu.)

The Buccaneers drop one spot from No. 2 to No. 3 in this week’s statewide volleyball rankings after losing just their second season match last week to top-ranked Plant. Leading the team so far this season are senior setter Izzy Mogridge (Oregon commit) and senior libero Lily Hayes (Florida commit).

#4 Chiles (Tallahassee) (14-1)

Last Week: Defeated Wakulla 3-0, Defeated Gulf Breeze 3-1, Defeated Lee County (GA) 3-0

This Week: at Leon (Tallahassee) (Tues.), vs Bishop Kenny (Sat.)

The Timberwolves crack inside the Top 5 for the first time this season where they’re coming off a 3-0 week, including a huge win over Gulf Breeze. Leading the team so far this season are senior outside hitter Kate Stewart (TCU commit), junior setter Eva Goodson, and junior outside hitter Lindsey Smith.

#5 Carrollwood Day (17-3)

Last Week: Defeated Cardinal Mooney 3-0, Defeated John Paul II (TX) 2-0, Defeated Woodrow Wilson (CA) 2-0, Defeated Foothill (CA) 2-0, Lost to Sierra Canyon (CA) 2-1, Lost to Marist (IL) 2-1, Defeated Assumption (KY) 2-1

This Week: at Tampa Prep (Tues.), at Berkeley Prep (Thu.)

The Lady Patriots are coming off a 4-2 week at the Durango Classic in Las Vegas where they finished sixth overall facing elite competition against nationally ranked teams. Leading the team so far this season has been sophomore outside hitter Lydia Chinchar.

#6 Trinity Catholic (12-3)

Last Week: Defeated Bishop Moore 3-2, Defeated Ocala Forest 3-1

This Week: vs St. John Lutheran (Tues.)

The Lady Celtics are coming off a 2-0 week, which included a 5-set thriller over Bishop Moore who is ranked inside the Top 25 across the state. Leading the team so far this season have been junior opposite Maddie Hewitson, sophomore outside hitter Ashlyn Hallick, and sophomore middle blocker Addyson Avery.

#7 Gulf Breeze (16-1)

Previous Rank: 4

Last Week: Defeated Booker T. Washington (Pensacola) 3-0, Defeated Arnold 3-0, Lost to Chiles 3-1

This Week: vs Spanish Fort (AL) (Wed.), at Pace (Thu.)

The Dolphins had an impressive 16-match win streak to start the season, where they didn’t drop a single set throughout the streak until they sustained their first loss of the year, dropping in four sets to No. 4 Chiles. Leading the team so far this season have been senior outside hitter Bella Satterwhite (Arizona State commit), junior outside hitter Sydney Sutter, and junior setter Estelle Reese.

#8 DeLand (18-2)

Last Week: Defeated Mainland 3-0, Defeated University (Orange City) 3-0, Defeated Lake Brantley 3-0, Defeated Spruce Creek 3-0

This Week: vs Hagerty (Wed.)

The Lady Bulldogs are coming off a 4-0 week where they won 12 out of 12 sets played and won the Five-Star Tournament. Leading the team this season have been senior setter Alison Bierwagen, and senior outside hitters Erynn Gotsch, and Ella Pringle.

#9 Cypress Bay (14-0)

Previous Rank: Not Ranked

Last Week: Defeated Archbishop McCarthy 3-0, Defeated Western 3-2, Defeated Carrollton School 2-0, Defeated Spanish River 2-0, Defeated North Broward Prep 2-0, Defeated Archbishop McCarthy 2-1, Defeated Palmer Trinity 2-1

This Week: vs Pembroke Pines Charter (Wed.)

The Lightning remain unbeaten after going 5-0 at last weekend’s C-M Tournament defeating Palmer Trinity in the championship match. Leading the team so far this season have been junior outside hitter Sophia Guzman, senior outside hitter Hunter Crawford, and senior right-side hitter Carly Port.

#10 Kissimmee Osceola (15-3)

Last Week: Defeated Hagerty 3-2, Defeated Tohopekaliga 3-0

This Week: at Holy Trinity Episcopal (Wed.), vs Winter Park (Thu.)

The Kowboys round out the HSSportsFlorida Top 10 statewide volleyball rankings as they come into the week on an eight-match win streak. Leading the team so far this season have been junior outside hitters Cate Palmi, Jordin Southall, and junior opposite Sophie Spivey.
