The nation’s No. 62 ranked player and No. 10 ranked combo guard Dante Allen, the son of former NBA player and current Miami Heat assistant coach Malik Allen committed to the University of Villanova on Wednesday.
Allen chose the Wildcats over two SEC schools Georgia and Tennessee where he took official visits to earlier in the fall.
Allen, A four-star combo guard from Montverde Academy (Fla.) brings a winning mindset where he helped lead Riviera Prep to back-to-back state championships as a sophomore and junior. He also helped lead the Nightrydas Elite to three consecutive Nike EYBL Peach Jam titles during the Grassroots circuit.
Allen is Villanova’s first commit in the upcoming recruitment cycle, where he averaged 21.0 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 3.4 steals per game last season at Riviera Prep.
Allen on why he chose Villanova via 247Sports: “I feel like it’s a place I could see myself at school-wise. I enjoyed the feeling basketball-wise and I know they’ve loved me since they offered me during my sophomore year.” They’ve been able to see my game and they have a good development plan there for me.”
247Sports Director of Scouting Adam Finkelstein on Allen: He is at his best in transition where he is able to show his excellent balance and his relentless approach to the basket. He is comfortable filling the lanes – and absorbing contact – or pushing the break with the ball in his hands. As he continues to develop, he will need to continue working on his pace and his reads, but he is capable with the ball in his hands to move it around to teammates. Allen is a streaky shooter at best. He will need to continue finding consistency in his footwork, balance, and release points. He’s at his best when he is able to attack the basket in straight lines.
