The 2nd Annual Hoop Feast continues Saturday with teams from across the Sunshine State on full display.
Mater Lakes Academy (0-2) has dropped two straight to start the season after winning the Class 4A State Championship in 2023-2024, where they were led by 6-3 freshman point guard Tai Bell (Son of former NBA veteran Raja Bell) finishing with a game-high 30 points.
Santa Fe Catholic (3-1) was led by a balanced scoring attack by 5-10 junior guard Toby Lane and 6-3 senior guard Tate Darner (Chattanooga commit) finishing with 24 and 22 points respectably. The Hawks held on for a 66-59 victory.
HSSportsFlorida was on hand to cover the contest and gives you five takeaways from the game:
- Tai Bell showing he can score across all three levels
Bell, the son of former NBA veteran Raja Bell was in his bag on the offensive end where he can create off the catch and the bounce. His efficiency on the offensive end was electrifying as he can score on all three levels. Finishing with a game-high 30 points.
- Khanye Moss is an electrifying guard who can play on and off the ball
The 5-10 sophomore point guard has a combination skillset of size and speed when he has the basketball in his hands. Moss seems to be very adapted when it comes to scoring off drives to the basket and is unafraid to finish at the front of the rim while absorbing contact. His release on his jump shot has continued to improve as well where he can score off the bounce as well as off the catch.
- Toby Lane is an underrated prospect in the Class of 2026
The 5-10 junior point guard was as tough as nails when it came to finishing on the attack. He also has a strong knack where he can knock down shots from behind the arc off the catch as well as off the bounce as he has one of the smoothest shooting strokes in the state for his class. Lane finished with a team-high 24 points in the win.
- Tate Darner continues to raise his stock
The 6-3 senior shooting guard and Chattanooga commit has continued to be one of the sharpest perimeter shooters in the state for his class. He brought dead-eye accuracy when it comes to shooting from beyond the arc, finishing with 22 points on five made 3-pointers in the win.
- Ethan Knox has the potential to be a breakout player in the Class of 2028
The 6-4 shooting guard brought his length and athleticism on display where he is one of the highest rising prospects in the freshman class. Offensively, he has a soft touch around the rim where he can finish at the front of the rim as well as finish through traffic. His defensive presence continues to make huge strides and he is aggressive in the passing lanes.
