#BREAKING: 2025 4-star LB Gavin Nix Flips Commitment to Oregon

IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) four-star linebacker Gavin Nix flipped his commitment from the University of Miami to Oregon on Tuesday afternoon.

The 6-0 220-pound linebacker made the announcement with just 24 hours before the early signing day period where he had been committed to the Hurricanes since July 1.

With Nix now committed to the Ducks, Dan Lanning currently stands at 17 commits for the upcoming recruiting cycle and is just the second linebacker joining Mater Dei (Ca.) four-star Nasir Wyatt who committed to the Ducks back on May 3.

Nix took official visits to Eugene in April for the spring game and followed up with another official visit back in June. “I just feel in love with their scheme and that their defensive style comes from the best coaches in the business”, Nix told On3 Recruiting Analyst Steve Wiltfong.

Prior to Nix’s commitment, the Ducks sat with the No. 7 ranked recruiting class for the upcoming cycle and with other prospects still in the running, they have a strong chance to push for a Top-5 recruiting class for the second straight recruiting cycle.

During his senior season at IMG Academy, Nix was credited for 43 total tackles and just two tackles for loss in nine games played.

247Sports Director of Scouting Andrew Ivins on Nix: Nix is a Battle-tested and high-IQ linebacker that displays outstanding key-and-diagnose ability for his age. Will exit IMG Academy as a multi-year starter after earning varsity snaps as a sophomore. Sifts through traffic with a win-at-all-cost mentality and is consistently violent at the point of attack. Should offer some value at the next level as a blitzer with his stack-and-shed capabilities. Athletic enough to handle drop coverage responsibilities and can hang in man-on-man situations, but is much better against the run than he is the pass at this stage as he excels at flowing forward and finding the football. Might lack a ton of real growth potential with his muscled-up build (has hovered right around 5-foot-11, 225 pounds since he emerged as a 9th grader), but combination of plus instincts, impressive play speed, and relentless effort should lead to plenty of success on Saturdays. Projects as a potential impact player and a high-volume tackler in a multi-dimensional scheme.
