The marquee matchup in the Tampa Bay area this week takes us to Tampa Bay Technical High School, where the 2-0 Tampa Bay Tech Titans look to continue their unbeaten start to the season, welcome the Armwood Hawks, who also come into this week at 2-0 to start the young season.
Armwood kicked off the season with wins over Gaither and Sumner, where they outscored the two programs by a combined score of 69-35. The Hawks have picked up key contributions from senior quarterback Rhys Brush, who is committed to South Florida, throwing for 244 yards and a touchdown pass through the first two weeks. Senior wide receiver Micah Hudgens has also been a lead catalyst so far on the young season where he leads the team in receiving yards (191) and also has a receiving touchdown.
Tampa Bay Tech kicked off the season with wins over reigning Class 7A champion Venice and dethroning Wharton last week, and has outscored its opponents 79-21 through the first two weeks of the season. The Titans came into the season having to answer questions on who the starting quarterback was going to be after Darryon Jones left during the off-season for the four-time defending state champion Chaminade-Madonna Lions. Senior quarterback Nate Richardson has solidified the job so far this season for the Titans where he has completed just 52.5% of his passes (11-for-21) for 171 yards and has thrown three touchdown passes so far this season. Senior running back Javari Barnett and sophomore running back Kasean Smith have picked up the Titans run game as well where they are combining to rush for 318 yards so far through two games this season.
This meeting will mark the 20th all-time meeting between the Hawks and Titans, with Armwood holding a 12-7 series lead where the two sides last met back on September 6, 2024, where Armwood won 31-27 in an absolute thriller at Lyle Flagg Stadium in Seffner.
