Florida High School Football Top 15 Rankings- Week 3


We are through two weeks of the high school football season in the Sunshine State. Each Monday throughout the season, HSSportsFlorida will reveal their Top 15 Statewide Rankings across all classifications. Here is this week’s edition of the Top 15 teams in Florida.

#1 Cocoa (2-0)

Previous Rank: 1

Last Week: Defeated Mainland, 51-0

This Week: at IMG Academy- Friday at 7:00 p.m.

The Cocoa Tigers will face their first test of the 2024 season this week when they travel to Bradenton to take on national-powerhouse IMG Academy.

#2 IMG Academy (1-1)

Previous Rank: 3

Last Week: Defeated Bergen Catholic (NJ) 27-14

This Week: vs Cocoa- Friday at 7:00 p.m.

The Ascenders are coming off their first win of the 2024 season and will now gear up for arguably the best game in the state, hosting Cocoa.

#3 St. Thomas Aquinas (1-1)

Previous Rank: 4

Last Week: Defeated Boyd Anderson, 51-0

This Week: vs Columbus- Friday at 7:00 p.m.

The Raiders got themselves in the win column for the first time this season with a 51-0 thumping over Boyd Anderson in their last game.

#4 Lakeland (1-0)

Previous Rank: 5

Last Week: Bye Week

This Week: at Lake Mary- Friday at 7:00 p.m.

The Dreadnaughts will look to make it two straight wins to start the 2024 season this week, where they’ll travel up I-4 to take on Notre Dame commit Noah Grubbs and the Lake Mary Rams.

#5 American Heritage Plantation (1-1)

Previous Rank: 7

Last Week: Defeated Western, 51-12

This Week: at Chaminade-Madonna- Friday at 7:00 p.m.

The Patriots will look to get above .500 for the first time in 2024 as they’ll travel to Chaminade-Madonna who are looking to avoid an 0-3 start to the season.

#6 Venice (2-0)

Last Week: Defeated Miami Northwestern, 48-42 (OT)

This Week: at Bishop Verot- Friday at 7:00 p.m.

The Indians improved to 2-0 on the young season where their offense clicked on all cylinders, led by James Madison commit Jamarice Wilder who had 31 carries for 314 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winner.

#7 Clearwater Central Catholic (2-0)

Previous Rank: 10

Last Week: Defeated Sebring, 43-8

This Week: at Tampa Catholic- Friday at 7:00 p.m.

The Marauders dominated in their last game on both sides of the ball in the win over Sebring. Senior quarterback Jershaun Newton went 14-of-21 for 199 passing yards and had a touchdown pass. Junior running back Nasir Hutchinson was efficient in the ground game where he had 15 carries for 126 yards and a touchdown in the win.

#8 Miami Central (1-1)

Previous Rank: 8

Last Week: Defeated Miami Edison, 54-7

This Week: vs Booker T. Washington (Miami)- Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

The Rockets took out their frustrations from their season-opening loss to Lakeland and routed Miami Edison, 54-7.

#9 Mandarin (Jacksonville) (2-0)

Previous Rank: 9

Last Week: Defeated Atlantic Coast, 47-0

This Week: vs Sandalwood- Friday at 6:30 p.m.

The Mustangs were in complete cruise control and the day started with 5-star wide receiver Jaime Ffrench committing to Texas. Ffrench had just 90 receiving yards on 3 catches and a touchdown in the win.

#10 Lake Mary (2-0)

Previous Rank: 15

Last Week: Defeated Kissimmee Osceola, 24-7

This Week: vs Lakeland- Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Rounding out the Top 10 this week are the Lake Mary Rams who enter the HSSportsFlorida Top 15 Weekly rankings for the first time this season.

#11 Miami Norland (2-0)

Previous Rank: 11

Last Week: Defeated Carol City, 36-10

This Week: Bye Week

The Vikings have shown championship-level defense in each of the first two weeks where they’re allowing just 5.0 points per game.

#12 St. Augustine (2-0)

Previous Rank: 13

Last Week: Defeated Menendez, 34-14

This Week: vs Bolles (Jacksonville)- Friday at 7:00 p.m.

A strong-passing game led the Yellow Jackets from senior quarterback Locklan Hewlett (Wake Forest commit) who went 25-of-33 for 305 passing yards and had a touchdown pass. Junior running back Trendell Anderson also clipped the 100-yard rushing mark where he also had three rushing touchdowns on the night.

#13 Armwood (2-0)

Previous Rank: Not Ranked

Last Week: Defeated Sumner, 44-7

This Week: vs Tampa Bay Tech- Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The Hawks have been on a tear so far in the young season where they’re averaging 43.0 points per game through the first two weeks. They will face their first test of the season where they’ll host Tampa Bay Tech at Lyle Flagg Stadium on Friday night.

#14 Berkeley Prep (1-1)

Previous Rank: 12

Last Week: Defeated Sarasota Booker, 28-21

This Week: vs Carrollwood Day- Friday at 7:00 p.m.

The Buccaneers got back in the win column for the first time in 2024 when they escaped Sarasota Booker on a 5-yard game-winning touchdown run by Joseph Troupe (Notre Dame commit). The Buccaneers will wrap up their two-game home stand when they host Carrollwood Day on Friday night.

#15 Eau Gallie (Melbourne) (2-0)

Previous Rank: Not Ranked

Last Week: Defeated Rockledge, 40-0

This Week: at Heritage (Palm Bay)- Friday at 7:00 p.m.

The Commodores are in the HSSportsFlorida Top 15 Football rankings for the first time in 2024. Sophomore quarterback Joseph Allen led the way completing 7-of-11 passes for 160 yards and had two touchdown passes. Defensively, the Commodores were led by senior defensive end Brandon Brown and senior linebacker Josh Roberts who each had eight total tackles in the win.
